Water Facts: Populations without access to safe drinking water

from The World's Water
The Biennial Report on Freshwater Resources
(Gleick 1998)

About 99.7% of the earth's water is contained in undrinkable forms such as oceans, underground, icecaps and glaciers. Due to increased contamination and pollution both above and below the ground, the condition of the remaining 0.3% is now questionable with many countries finding it increasingly difficult to source drinkable water that is of an acceptable quality. Water Master provides a viable solution to this problem by tapping into a fully renewable resource that holds vast amounts of fresh water -- the Earth's atmosphere. At any given moment, the atmosphere contains about 12,900 cubic kilometers (3,095 cubic miles) of water in the form of water vapour.

Throughout history clashes between and within countries have occurred over water and its supply. Many people believe that in the future, conflicts and even wars will be waged over water supplies; particularly as uncontaminated water becomes increasingly scarce.

The world's water is constantly moving in what is called the Water Cycle or Hydrologic cycle. This means that although water locations may change between the oceans, the atmosphere, rivers and lakes and below the ground, the volume of water always remains constant. The significant difference today compared to decades and centuries past is the negative impact that humans have had on usable fresh water. This impact is made in the form of pollution/contaminates, de-forestation, run-off and damming. The net result is that many countries in the world can no longer rely on their drinkable water supplies. Even countries in the western world with traditionally reliable water supplies are now suffering from ground water contamination and the effects of ageing water pipes.

It is a sad fact that the World Health Organization estimates that a child dies every 15 seconds from disease attributable to unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, or poor hygiene. We at Water Master are convinced that our technology will contribute to the reduction of this tragic circumstance and help to replenish the world's supply of safe drinking water.
